Antron Browns wins first Wally of 2021 at Atlanta

By Anthony Caruso III | Publisher Matco Tools Top Fuel Dragster pilot Antron Brown will go down as the final winner at Atlanta Dragway. He defeated his \”brother\” in the final round. Brown went 3.752 at 325.22 mph to claim the Wally at the 40th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Southern Nationals in Commerce, Georgia. This is his first win of the 2021 Camping World NHRA Drag Racing Series. Steve Torrence went 3.794 at 323.81 mph in the losing effort. The Chesterfield, New Jersey native — who now calls Indiana home — has won two of the past four events. Besides winning on Sunday, he also won the final race of the 2020 season in the 56th Annual Dodge NHRA Finals presented by Pennzoil at Las Vegas. “That’s Rocky Balboa right there (referencing Torrence) and I’m Apollo,” Brown said. “To get this win, it was truly remarkable. We just built on it every lap. Any time you can do this and get one of these (Wally trophies), it’s just so special. Atlanta has just been so special to all of us.” Before this final round appearance, Brown holds a 31-16 advantage over Torrence in the prior events. He also held a 6-5 advantage over Torrence in previous final rounds. Brown never trailed in the win. He won by 0.0453 seconds, or approx. 22 feet. This is Brown\’s 68th national event Wally of his career. He now has 52 career Top Fuel wins.
