Randy Meyer Racing Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Rachel Meyer is not happy with the NHRA. She is furious after the Sportsman’s treatment at the Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals presented By Pennzoil at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas.

Due to persistent rain throughout the weekend, the NHRA has catered to the professionals. With a TV window on FS1 from 3-5 pm EST today, officials have to push for the professional teams to stay on track.

“We made an attempt at second round but then NHRA decided to push us back so the pros could run shocker,” Meyer said in a Facebook post. “It would just be nice if NHRA would treat the sportsman racers a little better. Most of us do this as a hobby and have jobs we need to get back to, business to run, where most pro teams, that is their full-time job. I’m lucky enough I have a job that is flexible with me this year to try to chase my dreams with my dad while I still can. Not to mention a handful of pro drivers worked their way up the sportsman ranks to get where they are now. A lot of us are out here to have fun but it’s hard to when you can’t even make a lap down the track. I get it, this is a national event and the pros take priority over everyone else, but if you knew the weather would be bad why couldn’t you have canceled all of the sportsman classes and just ran the pros. It’s not fun sitting around wasting vacation time to watch it rain.

“We were one pair away from running our class and that’s when you decided to pull us. All 3 pairs of us strapped in the cars under the tower waiting. It doesn’t take too long to run 3 pairs of us. And the poor funny car guys have it worse than us, there are only 5 of them and you didn’t even try to run them. Or even try to run their first round on Saturday when you ran ours. I’m not normally one to rant on social media, but the way we have been treated this weekend is unacceptable. From our Pitt spots to the run schedule, it’s just not right. We had finally had enough of the mud last night and moved to the pavement. Hopefully, at some point, we can run today because I can’t take off another day of work to sit in the rain.”

Meyer — who is the most recent Top Alcohol Dragster event winner at the NGK NTK NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C. — will, unfortunately, have to wait until the officials give the Top Alcohol Dragsters the opportunity to compete.
