Philadelphia sports fans are infamous for what they’ve done over the years. A new low happened on Wednesday night.
As the Philadelphia 76ers were hosting the Washington Wizards at the Wells Fargo Center, an unidentified fan poured popcorn on Russell Westbrook. The Wizards’ star then had to be held back by security.
Westbrook was leaving the court due to an injury when the incident happened. The fan was immediately removed from the game.

“I wouldn’t come up to me on the street and throw popcorn on my head because you know what happens,” Westbrook said. “In these arenas, you gotta start protecting the players. We’ll see what the NBA does.”
At this time, it’s unclear what the NBA will do regarding this incident. The fan may be looking at a lifetime ban or even a suspension from the arena for some time.
The fan in question may face criminal charges from the incident if they are pursued. The 76ers have called the incident unacceptable.

“This was classless, unacceptable behavior, and we’re not going to tolerate it at the Wells Fargo Center,” Valerie Camillo, who is the President of Business Operations for the Wells Fargo Center said in a statement. “We’re proud to have the most passionate fans in the country, and the best home-court and home-ice advantage around, but this type of behavior has no place in our arena.”
