Carson Wentz cannot seem to stay healthy. This is his second injury with the Indianapolis Colts.
The franchise quarterback — who was acquired in a blockbuster deal this past offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles — was injured on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. He went down in the fourth quarter.
Wentz hobbled off the field. He was replaced by Jacob Eason.
The former No. 2 overall pick missed the Colts’ final two drives of the game. It was concerning to see Eason out there despite the team being down just a field goal.
It appears that Wentz injured his ankle on a play.
“Felt it right away, and it did not feel good,” Wentz said of the injury. “Tried to tape it up and do everything I could to finish the game. It’s a bad feeling to not be able to finish the game in that situation. You kinda feel like you let the team down a little bit.”
Before leaving the contest, he went 20 of 31 for 247 yards. He also had a touchdown pass and an interception.
On the ground, he had five carries for 37 yards.
In August, Wentz had foot surgery following an injury in training camp. It was believed he was going to miss 5-to-12 weeks with the injury.
However, he was back in time to play for his new team against the Seattle Seahawks.
If Wentz is out for an extended time, the Colts will be forced to either sign an additional quarterback or make a trade for one. There is a backup quarterback available; however, Wentz allegedly would not like the move for his former teammate.
Nick Foles is the Chicago Bears’ third-string quarterback. He is not expected to start in front of Andy Dalton or Justin Fields.
Thus, he should be available in a trade if the Colts could make it work. This summer, there was speculation and a story came out that alleged that Wentz would not like being Foles’ teammate once again.
We should hear more about Wentz’s injury on Monday. Colts head coach Frank Reich said that Wentz “rolled his ankle.”
