The Oregon Ducks have lost running back CJ Verdell for the rest of the season. He suffered the injury in the third quarter in the loss to the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday.
Following the game, Cristobal said that Verdell’s injury was significant. However, he did not disclose what type of injury that he suffered.
“CJ will be done for the year,” Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal said. “He was really having his most physical game I think. The way he was running and really getting downhill, running behind his pads.”
Verdell, who is in his fifth season with the team, was leading the backs with 397 yards. He also has five rushing touchdowns.
He also has two receiving touchdowns.
Travis Dye will get the bulk of the carries now. He has 382 yards on the season with three touchdowns.
There is little depth behind Dye. He will have to carry the load for the rest of the season.
This may be Verdell’s final season at the college level. Depending on his draft stock, he may pursue the NFL next.
He has one more year of eligibility if he chooses to use it.
