Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was injured on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. While the Bengals lost in overtime, the concern is with their franchise quarterback.

According to a report, Burrow was poked in the throat when he hit his head on the turf. He was taken to a local hospital following the game with a throat contusion.

He did not speak with the media after the game. There is some speculation that he had trouble talking, which is why he did not meet with the media.

ProFootballTalk is reporting that Burrow was poked in the throat at some point during the contest. It is not clear when he may have suffered the injury.

“The injury did not happen when he took a big hit on a running play and slammed his head into the turf,” the story says. “It’s unknown whether the poke is believed to have happened deliberately.”

Burrow had 281 passing yards in the contest despite the injury. He had two touchdown passes and two interceptions.

In addition, he also had three carries for 11 yards.

It is too early to tell if Burrow will have to miss time next week. If the team needs to sit Burrow, it would come at the perfect time, as the Bengals play the winless Detroit Lions, who come into the contest with an 0-5 mark.

Burrow’s backup is Brandon Allen, who has played in the NFL for three seasons. Allen has played the past two seasons with the Bengals.

He is 2-6 as a starter in the NFL. He guided the Bengals to a win in 2020 in a 37-31 win over the Houston Texans on December 27th.

Last season, he went 90 of 142 for 825 yards. He had five touchdown passes and four interceptions.
