Jack Eichel has been traded to the Vegas Golden Knights. He was acquired in a blockbuster deal on Thursday.
In exchange for their former star, the Buffalo Sabres received Alex Tuch and Peyton Krebs. In addition, the team also added a future first-round draft pick and a future second-round draft pick.
The Golden Knights also received a future third-round draft pick to complete the deal.
There is a stipulation with the picks that the Sabres received. If the pick is not in the Top 10 for the 2022 NHL Draft, then the first-round draft pick will be in the 2022 NHL Draft. The second-round pick then will come in the 2023 NHL Draft. The third-round pick that the Golden Knights will come in 2023.
However, if the pick is in the Top 10, the draft selection will slide to the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft. And the second-round draft pick will be in the 2024 NHL Draft. Vegas will then receive their third-round pick in the 2024 Draft, as well.
“The price was high for him, obviously, in terms of what we have sent to Buffalo, but at the same time for a player of this ilk, it should be high,” Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon told reporters after the trade on Thursday. “For me, when you look at what an NHL contending team should look like, he’s really an important piece of that.”
The 25-year-old Eichel was the second overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. In his six-year career with the Sabres, he has scored 139 goals in 375 games. He has also had 216 assists for 355 points.
The 25-year-old Tuch was the 18th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. This will be his third NHL team. He also played for the Minnesota Wild.
Tuch has scored 61 goals in 255 games with the three teams. He also has 78 assists for 139 points in his career.
The 20-year-old Krebs was the 17th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. In parts of two seasons with the Golden Knights, he appeared in 13 games. He had one assist during the 2020-21 season.
