Ragin’ Cajuns defeat Thundering Herd in the 2021 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd in the 2021 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. The Ragin’ Cajuns won 36-21 over the Thundering Herd at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

This was the 21st edition of the New Orleans Bowl. Louisiana has played in the game six times. They are 5-1 in the game.

Their only New Orleans Bowl game loss came to the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles in a 28-21 loss on December 17, 2016.

This was Michael Desormeaux’s first game with the team. He was named the interim head coach after Billy Napier left to become the Florida Gators’ head coach after the regular season.

Louisiana has won three straight Bowl games.

Marshall was playing in their first New Orleans Bowl. The Thundering Herd has dropped their last three Bowl games.

Charles Huff is now 0-1 as the Thundering Herd’s head coach in a Bowl game.

Ragin’ Cajuns quarterback Levi Lewis went 19 of 31 for 270 yards. He threw a touchdown pass.

Emani Bailey had 17 carries for 94 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Michael Jefferson had three receptions for 108 yards.

Thundering Herd quarterback Grant Wells went 15 of 26 for 99 yards. He also threw an interception.

Rasheen Ali had 20 carries for 160 yards and three touchdowns. Corey Gammage had nine receptions for 50 yards.

Ragin’ Cajuns outscored the Thundering Herd 20-7 in the second half. Bailey scored on a four-yard rushing touchdown. The two-point conversion failed.

Montrell Johnson had a three-yard rushing touchdown. Bailey also scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown.

Thundering Herd’s Ali scored on a nine-yard rushing touchdown.

Louisiana led 16-14 at halftime. Lewis hit Kyren Lacy for a nine-yard touchdown reception. Nate Snyder made three field goals.

Marshall’s Ali scored on a 63-yard rushing touchdown. He also added a 14-yard rushing touchdown.
