In this throwback story, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Minnesota Vikings in their 1990 season opener. The Chiefs defeated the Vikings, 24-21, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
With the win, the Chiefs improved to 1-0 on the season. The Vikings fell to 0-1.
Chiefs quarterback Steve DeBerg went 16 of 28 for 196 yards. He had two touchdown passes.
Christian Okoye had 28 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown. Todd McNair had six receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Vikings quarterback Wade Wilson went 18 of 36 for 248 yards. He had three touchdown passes and one interception.
Herschel Walker had 14 carries for 68 yards. Hassan Jones had five receptions for 68 yards.
Both teams scored a touchdown in the second half. Okoye scored a two-yard rushing touchdown for the Chiefs.
Wilson hit Walker for an eight-yard touchdown reception.
The Chiefs led 17-14 at halftime. DeBerg hit Bill Jones for a four-yard touchdown reception.
DeBerg also hit McNair for a 22-yard touchdown reception. Nick Lowery also made a 43-yard field goal.
Vikings’ Wilson hit Walker for a six-yard touchdown reception. Wilson also hit Steve Jordan for a 26-yard touchdown reception.
