The No. 4 Cincinnati Bearcats know that they are the underdogs against the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide. The undefeated Bearcats are the first Group of 5 team in the College Football Playoff.
The Bearcats are going to have much of the country rooting for them. But will the underdog prevail?
The 12-1 Crimson Tide and the 13-0 Bearcats are playing in the College Football Semifinal in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. The game will start at 3:30 pm EST at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Alabama is making their seventh appearance in the College Football Playoff. They have won three CFP National Championships in 2015, 2017, and 2020 since the format started in 2014.
This is Cincinnati’s first appearance in the College Football Playoff.
Two explosive offenses will do battle in this game. Both teams finished the regular season in Top 10 of points scored.
The Bearcats were 8th with an average of 39.2 points per game. The Crimson Tide are fourth with an average of 42.5 points per game.
Cincinnati’s defensive unit has performed better than the Crimson Tide’s defensive unit this season. However, Alabama has faced tougher competition all season in the Southeastern Conference.
The Bearcats have given up 16.1 points per game, which is fourth-best in the country. The Crimson Tide is 18th-best with a 20.2 points per game average.
Alabama is 5-0 all-time against Cincinnati. This is the first meeting between the two teams since November 17th, 1990 when the Crimson Tide won 45-7 in Birmingham, Alabama.
The Crimson Tide has outscored the Bearcats 156-27 in the previous five meetings.
Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young has gone 314 of 462 for 4,322 yards. He has thrown 43 touchdown passes and four interceptions.
Brian Robinson Jr. leads the backs with 223 carries for 1,071 yards and 14 touchdowns. Jameson Williams has had 68 receptions for 1,445 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Bearcats quarterback Desmond Ridder has gone 234 of 355 for 3,190 passing yards. He has thrown 30 touchdown passes and 8 interceptions.
Jerome Ford has had 200 carries for 1,242 yards and 19 touchdowns. Alec Pierce has had 50 receptions for 867 yards and eight touchdowns.
