Former Boise State Broncos football player Greg Grimes was killed on Monday morning. He was 31.
An official cause of death has not been announced yet. But according to KCRA, he was gunned down in Sacramento, California.
“I, and the entire Boise State football family, are saddened to learn about the passing of Greg Grimes,” Boise State Broncos head coach Andy Avalos said in a statement. “I was fortunate to coach him during his senior season. He was a member of the brotherhood who is gone way too soon. He will be missed.”

According to reports, Grimes was killed as a nightclub was letting out. Four others were injured in the shooting.
His mother told the Sacramento Bee that he was shot three times to the chest.
“They worked on him for about 20 minutes trying to do CPR, and then when they got to the hospital they tried more to revive him,” she said. “They broke open his chest cavity so they could try to massage his heart, so he was really trying. They took him into surgery, but he ever regained consciousness. He didn’t make it.
“We had no idea. We didn’t expect what they were going to say. We thought they were going to say, ‘OK, he was shot and he’s asked for his parents to come up.’ That’s what we were expecting. We did not know.”
The authorities have not said if any suspects have been arrested in the case. The investigation is ongoing.

According to the Bee, Grimes was previously shot in 2017. Gunman Adrian Calderon shot Grimes in the neck, along with a security guard, outside the Parlare Euro Lounge.
Grimes was an assistant football coach and teacher at Inderkum High School.
“We are saddened by the news of the passing of Greg Grimes,” Natomas Unified School District said in a statement. “Our heartfelt thoughts are with his family and friends, and all the individuals he connected with through his work at Inderkum High School.”
Grimes was a member of the Broncos from 2009 through 2012.
