The New York Jets have made the decision to hire Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator. He replaces Mike LaFluer, who served in the role in 2022.
LaFluer was fired at the end of the season. There is speculation that he will be joining the Los Angeles Rams coaching staff.
Hackett comes to North Jersey after serving as the Denver Broncos head coach. He was fired by the Broncos ownership on December 26th.
He was fired after a 51-14 beat down by the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day.
Many pundits around the league consider Hackett a great offensive mind. And they do not put all the blame for the Broncos lackluster season on him as they also blame Russell Wilson’s horrid play as a factor.
This fresh start will give Hackett a chance to prove that the Denver experience was a bump on his resume. He will be responsible for saving Zach Wilson’s career.
Wilson, the former No. 2 overall pick, was horrible for the Jets. There were even reports that he lost the locker room.
He was benched in favor of Mike White. However, due to an injury, head coach Robert Saleh had to give him another chance. But that chance did not work out and veteran Joe Flacco finished the season as the starter against the Miami Dolphins.
Before being hired by the Broncos, he was the Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator. He worked with future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers from 2019 through 2021.
He also served as an offensive coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2016-2018. Hackett also has experience as an offensive coordinator in the AFC East with the Buffalo Bills in 2013 and 2014.
Hackett has served as an NFL coach since 2006 when he was hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. From 2003 through 2005, he was a college coach.
