The Milwaukee Bucks have fired head coach Adrian Griffin. He had been the team’s head coach for just 43 games.
Griffin was hired by the team this summer. He was let go despite guiding the team to a 30-13 record. The Bucks currently sit in second in the Eastern Conference with that record.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision,” Bucks GM Jon Horst said in a statement. “Adrian is a respected coach and person, but we felt a change was needed to reach our championship goals.

The inexperienced head coach, who was hired in June 2023, has had a lengthy assistant coaching career. He was brought in to replace Mike Budenholzer, who guided the Bucks to the NBA Championship.
According to sources, there had been tension before this move was made. The Bucks front office reportedly wanted Griffin to hire former NBA head coach Terry Stotts as his lead assistant coach.
Stotts was hired by the team. However, just five days before the season started, Stotts resigned after he reportedly had a heated post-practice argument with Griffin.
Despite the good record, there have been questions about the Bucks’ defensive identity. Earlier this season, the Bucks lost to the Atlanta Hawks in the second game of the season.
In a rarity, the Hawks had eight players in double figures. The team also shot 50% from the field.
After this game, according to sources, Antetokounmpo was frustrated with the defensive schemes. He reportedly mapped out the concerns on a whiteboard in the locker room.

The Bucks were previously one of the top five defensive units in the league. Under Griffin, the team struggled to stop opponents.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to coach this talented group and wish the organization nothing but success moving forward,” Griffin said.
