According to a video obtained by TMZ Sports, golfer Scottie Scheffler admits that he “should have stopped” for the cop. He was arrested earlier this month outside of the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.

This video was posted on Facebook on May 23rd. It was posted six days after the world’s No. 1 golfer was arrested.

He was trying to go to the Valhalla Golf Course to prepare for his tee time. Scheffler believed that the cop was a security guard.

“You’re right,” Scheffler said as he was cuffed in the back of a car. “I should have stopped. I did get a little impatient because I’m quite late for my tee time.”

Scheffler claimed that he was scared by the officer’s behavior. He claimed that the officer “grabbed him by his shoulder and hit him.”

“It seemed to be a little bit over-aggressive because the entrance was open,” Scheffler said in the video. “And I pulled a little bit because I was afraid. I thought he was going to start hitting me and I didn’t know who he was. He didn’t tell me he was a police officer.

“All I saw was the yellow jacket. I didn’t know what he was doing.”

After this time, Scheffler was reportedly informed that the officer claimed that he was injured.

“If I knew he was a police officer, I would have been much less afraid,” Scheffler said. “But panic kind of set in. As you can see, I’m still shaking because I was afraid. I didn’t know who he was. He didn’t say, ‘Police, get out of the car.’ He just hit me with his flashlight and yelled, ‘Get out of the car.'”

Scheffler was taken to jail and then was released quickly thereafter despite being booked on several criminal charges. This includes a felony charge of a police officer.

Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said that the officer violated policy during the incident with Scheffler. The body-worn camera was not turned on during the incident.

There is expected to be a hearing on Monday in this case.
