Spirit, Wave play to a 1-1 draw in Washington, D.C.

The Washington Spirit and the San Diego Wave have played to a draw. The teams played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.

With the draw, the Spirit went to 9-1-3 on the season. The Wave is now 3-5-4.

This is the first draw of the season for the Spirit. For the Wave, however, this is their fifth draw.

These two teams also have one more meeting left on the schedule. They play each other on September 1st in San Diego.

The Wave took an early lead. Jaedyn Shaw scored in the 20th minute. Maria Sanchez assisted on the goal.

In the waning moments of the contest, the Spirit tied up the game. Croix Bethune scored in the 90th + 6 mark.

There were six total yellow cards given out in the game. The Wave received four of them.

Abby Dahlkemper received a yellow card in the 21st minute. Then, Danielle Colaprico received a yellow card in the 48th minute.

In the 66th minute, Alex Morgan received a yellow card. Finally, Kaitlyn Torpey received a yellow card in the 87th minute.

Spirit’s Hal Hershfelt received a yellow card in the 46th minute. Trinity Rodman received a yellow card in the 82nd minute.

Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury made saves on two of the three shots against her. Wave goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan made saves on seven of the eight shots against her.
