Spirit swept Gotham FC, win 2-0 in New Jersey

The Washington Spirit has shut out Gotham FC. The Spirit won 2-0 on Sunday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.

With the win, the Spirit improved to 10-1-3 on the season. The Gotham FC fell to 8-3-3.

The Spirit are now on a six-game undefeated streak. They have five wins in this streak.

The team also has a 1-1 draw in this stretch. The draw came against the San Diego Wave.

The Spirit have defeated Gotham FC both times this season. They also won 2-0 against their New York-based rivals in March.

They do not play again this season after this matchup.

The Spirit opened the scoring in the 27th minute. That’s when Courtney Brown scored. Croix Bethune assisted on the goal.

Then, right after halftime, Trinity Rodman scored the second goal. Casey Krueger assisted on the goal.

There were multiple cards given out in the game. Yazmeen Ryan received two yellow cards that resulted in a red card.

Ryan received her first yellow card in the 39th minute. She then received her second yellow at the 45+9 minute mark.

Nealy Martin and Crystal Dunn also received yellow cards for Gotham FC.

The Spirit received two yellow yards. Ouleymata Sarr received a yellow card in the 15th minute.

Then, late in the contest, Kate Wiesner received a yellow card in the 77th minute.

Gotham FC goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger had saved five of the seven shots. Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury made two saves.
