Chester, Pa. — The Philadelphia Union won their first game in two months. But that win will forever be overshadowed by what happened in the game.

The Union defeated the New England Revolution 5-1 on Wednesday night at Subaru Park.

It was the Union’s first win since May 18th, against the Revolution. Philadelphia won 3-1 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Plus, it was the Union’s first win at home since March 30th. That’s when they won 2-0 against the Minnesota United CF.

Late in the contest, the Union’s Wonder Kid Cavan Sullivan made his Major League Soccer debut. The 14-year-old is the youngest athlete in professional sports in North American team history.

He came in during the 85th minute when he replaced Tai Baribo. When he entered the game, the generational talent sent the fan base into a frenzy.

Sullivan broke Freddy Adu’s MLS record, which had stood for two decades. The Pennsylvania native broke Adu’s record by 13 days.

Adu previously set the MLS record with the D.C. United in 2004. Following the game, Adu congratulated Sullivan on social media for breaking his record.

This was a small sample size for the prodigy, who was called up to the first team on Tuesday. Sullivan said after the game that he believed that he may play on Wednesday or Saturday against Nashville SC.

Union head coach Jim Curtin said that the team — and Manchester City — have a plan for Sullivan’s future. He did not go into what that plan is though.

The Union has an agreement in place with Manchester City to sell off his rights when he turns 18.

It’ll be interesting to see how they plan to use Sullivan moving forward.

Baribo had his best game with the Union. He scored three goals.

Quinn Sullivan — the older brother of the Wonder Kid — scored an amazing goal. He then went over to Cavan and celebrated with his teammates on the sidelines.

Jakob Glesnes also scored in the contest.

The Revolution had the aforementioned goal. That came from Ian Harkes.

The Union received a spark from Andre Blake returning to the lineup. This was his first action for the team since April.
