Gotham FC defeats Spirit with PK goal in the Summer Cup

Chester, Pa. — NJ/NY Gotham FC got a bit of revenge against the Washington Spirit on Sunday. Gotham FC won 1-0 over the Spirit at Subaru Park.

This was Gotham FC’s first win against the Spirit this season. They were previously 0-2.

The Spirit defeated Gotham FC 2-0 in April. Then again in June, they won 2-0 during the NWSL season.

Gotham FC received points in their NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup Group. They are currently leading Group D with five points.

They are 1-1-0. Gotham FC has five points.

The Spirit and Chivas de Guadalajara are tied with 3 points each. Both teams have a 1-0-1 record.

The Chicago Red Stars are the worst team in the group. They are 0-1-1 and have just one point.

Each team has one game left in the group stage. This was the final scheduled Summer Cup game at Subaru Park.

Yazmeen Ryan scored the lone goal. She scored after a penalty in the 62nd minute.

Ryan scored on a penalty shot. This was all they needed to secure the win.

According to Soccer Reference, Ryan tied her season tally. She had just one goal during the NWSL season thus far.

The website states that Ryan has not made a penalty kick in her career with Gotham FC and the Portland Thorns over six seasons.
