Newark, DE — The Delaware Blue Hens started their final FCS season with a season-opening win. The Blue Hens defeated the visiting Bryant Bulldogs, 48-17, on Thursday night from Delaware Stadium.
With the win, the Blue Hens are 1-0. The Bulldogs are 0-1.
The Delaware notes said it was the Blue Hens’ first home game in August since 2019. That’s when the Newark-based school defeated their in-state rivals, Delaware State, 31-13.

This was the first meeting between the schools. This is Bryant’s first season in the CAA after playing in the Big South-Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Football Association and the Northeast Conference.
While Bryant is now in the CAA, the game was considered a non-conference game. The Blue Hens will be leaving the CAA following this season, as they prepare for their addition to the Conference USA football schedule in 2025.
Scouts from the Las Vegas Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, and Carolina Panthers were on hand to scout the Blue Hens players.
Blue Hens quarterback Ryan O’Connor went 29 of 41 for 245 yards. He had four touchdown passes.
Marcus Yarns had 12 carries for 62 yards and one touchdown. Max Patterson had five receptions for 53 yards.
Bulldogs quarterback Jarrett Guest went 16 of 29 for 146 yards. He had one touchdown pass and one interception.

Fabrice Mukendi had nine receptions for 40 yards. Gary Cooper had four receptions for 78 yards.
O’Connor hit Phil Lutz for a 16-yard touchdown reception.
Yarns scored two straight touchdowns. He scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.
He also caught a three-yard touchdown reception from O’Connor.
Jo’Nathan Silver scored a one-yard rushing touchdown. O’Connor also hit Nicholas Laboy for an 11-yard touchdown reception.
Bryant’s Guest hit Marc Taglieri Jr. for a four-yard touchdown pass. Bryce Soli also made a 23-yard field goal.
