Cornwell Tools Funny Car driver Austin Prock has won the prestigious 70th annual Toyota NHRA U.S. Nationals. He defeated NAPA Auto Parts driver Ron Capps in the final round.
Prock went 3.885 for 327.98 mph to get the win. Capps, who had a special tribute to the legendary Don “The Snake” Prudhomme, went 3.935 at 331.45 mph.
In the previous Funny Car meetings, each driver had won one round. However, this was the first time that they had faced each other in the final round.
Prock had the starting line advantage. After the starting line, he began to pull away.
As he was going down the track, Prock was extending his lead. Capps also made a good pass.
However, he ran out of space in trying to catch up to Prock.
The young Prock won by 0.0781 seconds. Or approximately 38 feet.
This is Prock’s fifth win of the season. He has nine career wins overall.
