The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded star center Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks. In exchange, the Timberwolves received forward Julius Randle, guard Donte DiVincenzo, and a first round draft pick that originally belonged to the Detroit Pistons.

This is huge news before the season starts. Teams will begin having preseason games next weekend.

With this move, Towns has a homecoming. He was born in Edison, New Jersey and went to St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, NJ.

Towns would also become the Knicks starting center. New York lacked a true center after former starter Isaiah Hartenstein signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder in July.

The 28-year-old Towns was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. He spent his entire career with the Timberwolves before this deal.

He averaged 21.8 points per game last season. Towns also averaged 8.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.7 blocks per contest.

Randle was college teammates with Towns at Kentucky. He was the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.

The 29 year old averaged 24 points per game last season. He also averaged 9.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game.

DiVincenzo ends his tenure with the Nova Knicks. He played one season with his former Villanova teammate Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart.

The 27 year old was a first round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He averaged 15.5 points per game.

In addition, he averaged 5.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.4 blocks per contest.
