Falcons come from behind, defeat Buccaneers in OT on Hodge’s TD

The Atlanta Falcons defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football. The Falcons won 36-30 over the Buccaneers in overtime at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. 

With the win, the Falcons improved to 3-2 on the season. The Buccaneers are also 3-2.

However, the Falcons currently have the tiebreaker to make them the top team in the NFC South.

With the win by the Falcons, the all-time series is now tied at 31 apiece. Atlanta has won three of the last four games in the series. 

This was the first overtime game between the two teams since the 2019 season. That’s when the Falcons won 28-22 in overtime at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. 

Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins went 42 of 58 for 509 yards. He had four touchdown passes and one interception. 

Bijan Robinson had 12 carries for 61 yards. Drake London had 12 receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown. 

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield went 19 of 24 for 180 yards. He had three touchdown passes. 

Rachaad White had 10 carries for 72 yards. Chris Godwin had five receptions for 64 yards.

Atlanta outscored Tampa Bay 19-6 in the second half. Cousins hit Darnell Mooney for a 12-yard touchdown reception. 

Cousins hit KhaDarel Hodge for the game-winning 45-yard touchdown reception in overtime. Younghoe Koo hit a 48-yard field goal. 

He also made a 52-yard field goal as time expired to send the game into overtime.

Buccaneers kicker Chase McLaughlin made two field goals. He first made a 32-yard field goal. 

He also made a 53-yard field goal.

The Buccaneers led 24-17 at halftime. Mayfield hit Mike Evans for a two-yard touchdown reception. 

Mayfield also connected with Evans for a 23-yard touchdown reception. This was Evans’ 100th career touchdown. 

Mayfield connected with Sterling Shepard, who was permanently added to their 53-man roster this week, for a four-yard touchdown reception. McLaughlin also made a 53-yard field goal. 

Falcons’ Cousins hit London for an 18-yard touchdown reception. Cousins hit Mooney for a 24-yard touchdown reception. Koo also made a 54-yard field goal.
