Georgia suspends WR Colbie Young indefinitely

The Georgia Bulldogs have announced that they have suspended wide receiver Colbie Young indefinitely. This stems from his recent arrest.

He was arrested on Tuesday. He is facing charges of battery and assaulting an unborn child, according to the authorities.

“Yeah, I got to speak to him this morning. He’s been suspended indefinitely until this legal matter is resolved,” Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart said on the SEC Coaches Teleconference call. “We can’t really comment any further on the specifics of it, but had a good meeting with him this morning. We’re committed to continuing to educate our players and do the best job we can of making sure they understand the serious nature of these incidents.

“It’s very unfortunate, but we want to be responsible in decision-making on and off the field. This is obviously a really tough situation, but he’s suspended indefinitely until the legal matter is resolved.”

Young — who is in his first season with the Bulldogs — had 11 receptions for 149 yards in five games. He has also scored two touchdowns.

He last played in the Bulldogs’ 31-13 win over the Auburn Tigers on Saturday. He had three receptions for 51 yards in the game.

His best performance came on September 28th against the Alabama Crimson Tide. He had three receptions for 57 yards.

In the first three games of the season, he did not have more than 20 yards in a game. However, he had a touchdown reception in their 34-3 win against the Clemson Tigers on August 31st.

Then, he had a six-yard touchdown reception in a 48-3 win over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on September 7th.

Before coming to Georgia, Young played two seasons with the Miami (Florida) Hurricanes. in two seasons with the Hurricanes, he had 79 receptions for 930 yards and 10 touchdown passes.
