ESPN has announced the hiring of former NFL MVP Cam Newton. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Newton is expected to make his debut with the company on Friday. He will be part of “First Take” from Tennessee State University as they attend several HBCU colleges this fall.

“Cam Newton’s addition to First Take brings an electrifying presence, enhancing our roster of top-tier personalities,” ESPN’s Executive Vice President, Executive Editor, Sports News & Entertainment David Roberts said in a statement. “His dynamic charisma, combined with the high-profile debates along with Stephen A. Smith, will create compelling, must-watch television for fans.”

After his initial appearance, it is not clear when he’ll make appearances. Shannon Sharpe and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo make limited appearances on “First Take” each week.
The 35-year-old, who also hosts a podcast, played in the NFL from 2011 through 2021. The bulk of his career came with the Carolina Panthers.
He also spent one season with the New England Patriots.
Newton was 75-68-1 in his career as a starter. He went 2,682 of 4,474 for 32,382 passing yards. He also had 194 touchdown passes and 123 interceptions.

In his final season in the league, he signed with the Panthers during the 2021 season. He went 0-5 as a starter in five games.
That season, he went 69 of 126 for 684 yards. He had four touchdown passes and five interceptions.
