Hurricane Milton made landfill around the Sarasota, Florida area. However, an hour away, the storm is taking a beating to a Major League Baseball stadium.
Tropicana Field, the home of the Tampa Bay Rays, has suffered significant damage to its roof. Part of the roof has already either collapsed into the stadium or fell off.
The Rays will have to wait until the storm ends to evaluate the damages. At that time, the team will have a better idea as to how much it would cost to repair the stadium.

And a timetable on when it would be fixed. Depending on that time frame, the Rays may be forced to move until their facility is fixed.
The domed stadium has been used by the Rays since their debut season in 1998.
Major League Baseball is not the only tenant that has used the venue. The Trop is a multi-use facility.
It has also been used as a home for college football bowl games. However, the game was relocated to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
The Temple Owls were the last bowl winner at the Tropicana. They won 28-8 over Florida International University Panthers on December 21st, 2017.
Since the 2018 college football season, the game has been at Raymond James Stadium.

From the Bowl game’s inception in 2008, the game had over 20,000 fans through the 2014 season at Tropicana Field. However, they had 14,652 in 2015 when the Marshall Thundering Herd defeated the UCONN Huskies 16-10.
The next year, they had 15,717 when the Mississippi State Bulldogs won 17-16 over Miami (Ohio) RedHawks. Their final season at the Tropicana Field saw 16,363 when Temple won.
The Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl is slated to kick off on Friday, December 20th, at 3:30 pm.
