The New Orleans Saints have re-signed star running back Alvin Kamara on Tuesday night. He is now signed through the 2026 season.

The 29-year-old has agreed to a new two-year contract extension. This deal is worth $24.5 million.

His new deal has $22 million in guaranteed money. It also includes $1.5 million in incentives that could make this new deal worth $26 million.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero says that this new deal will save the team $18 million in cap relief next season.

According to Spotrac.com, Kamara had a $22.4 million base salary in 2025. His total cap hit was extended to $29 million.

However, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, his 2025 was not meant to be paid. And the team was treating this season as the final year of the five-year, $75 million extension that he signed in September 2020.

The team also added two ghost years onto the deal in 2026 and 2027.

After the San Francisco 49ers have re-signed Christian McCaffrey and the Philadelphia Eagles have signed Saquon Barkley in free agency, Kamara was vocal about wanting to be paid like an elite running back. Spotrac is reporting that he is making $10.2 million base salary this season.

His total cap hit for 2024 is $18.5 million.

Kamara has said that he wants to be able to retire as a member of the Saints. With running backs have short lives in the NFL, the 2026 season may be his final season in the league.

This season, Kamara has had 111 carries for 438 yards and six touchdowns. He has also had one reception for eight yards.

The former third round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft had seven carries for 10 yards on Thursday Night Football against the Denver Broncos in the Saints’ last game. He also had six receptions for 14 yards.
