Indianapolis Colts young quarterback Anthony Richardson quit on his teammates. He tapped out and took himself out of Sunday’s game.
Richardson said that he “needed a break.” Now, he is getting one, as he is on the bench.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen has announced that Joe Flacco will get the start on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football. The veteran signal-caller signed a one-year deal with the team in the offseason.
The 39-year-old Flacco is 1-1 this season as a starter. He has gone 71 of 108 for 716 yards.
The 17-year veteran also has seven touchdown passes and one interception.
The 22-year-old Richardson — who was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft — is already showing glimpses that he’s a bust. He has the lowest completion percentage in the last 20 seasons.
Richardson is tops with 44.4%. Next is Tim Tebow during the 2011 season with the Denver Broncos when he went 46.5%.
Then-Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell is third with 48.8% in 2009. Then-Buffalo Bills quarterback J.P. Losman is last with a 49.6% mark in 2005.
Richardson has gone 3-3 as a starter. He is 59 of 133 for 958 yards.
The Florida native has four touchdown passes. He also has seven interceptions.
In Sunday’s loss to the Houston Texans, he went 10 of 32 for 175 yards. He had one touchdown pass and one interception.
