San Francisco Giants pitcher Blake Snell has opted out of his contract. Snell and his management representatives opted to exercise his opt-out clause in his contract.

Snell had a player option for the 2025 season that would have paid him $30 million. Now, the veteran pitcher will try his hand at free agency once again.

Earlier this year, he signed a two-year deal with the Giants. In March, he signed a contract worth $62 million.

The 31-year-old is represented by Scott Boras, MLB’s mega agent. Boras is hoping that he can strike a new deal worth more than the $30 million that he turned down.

But last off-season, Snell was one of the last free agents to sign. He signed with the Giants weeks before MLB began their season.

This past season, Snell went 5-3 in 20 starts. He also had one complete game and one shutout.

He also had a 3.12 ERA in 104 innings pitched.

Snell allowed 36 earned runs on the season. He allowed 38 runs overall on 65 hits. He also struck out 145 batters and walked 44.

In August, he threw his first career no-hitter. He threw the no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark.

Whoever signs Snell, it may be his fourth MLB team if he does not sign with one of his previous teams. He began his career with the Tampa Bay Rays, where he played from 2016 through 2020.

He then was traded to the San Diego Padres, where he played from 2021 through 2023. He won the Cy Young Award in the two separate leagues in 2018 and 2023.

In his nine-year career, Snell is 76-58 as a starter in 211 starts. He also had one complete game and one shutout.

Snell has a career 3.19 ERA in 1,096 2/3 innings. He has allowed 389 earned runs and 419 runs overall. Snell has given up 840 hits and 108 home runs. He has struck out 1,368 batters and walked 495.
