The Houston Astros have won their first World Series. They defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in Game 7 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
This was the first World Series for the Astros. The team dates back to the 1962 season when they played in the National League.

“This is a dream come true, it’s an honor, but you know what: it’s about the Houston Astros tonight, the city and our fans,” George Springer said. “We’re coming home a champion Houston!…That patch on our chest truly means a lot to us. I’m so happy to our fans who have endured a lot and we’re coming home champions.”

Before becoming the Astros, the team was known as the Houston Colt .45s from 1962 through 1964.
The Astros previously advanced to the World Series in 2005. However, they were defeated by the Chicago White Sox.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Dodgers got on the board. That’s when Andre Either hit a single to right field.
This allowed Joc Pederson to score.
In the top of the second inning, the Astros scored three runs. This increased their lead to 5-0.
Springer hit a home run off of Yu Darvish. Marwin González scored on the play.
Lance McCullers Jr. grounded out to second base. This allowed Brian McCann, who began the inning with a walk, to score.
In the top of the 1st inning, Jose Altuve grounded out. Alex Bregman scored on the play due to an error.
“I think this is the happiest moment in my life in baseball,” Altuve said. “I always believed that we could make it…I think we deserve it because every single guy helped us…we did this for them [the fans]…they are the biggest reason why we’re here every single day.”
Bregman reached base due to an error. Springer scored on the play.
