Tony Stewart is just days away from his tenure as a NASCAR owner ending. He is part of the Stewart Haas Racing team.

Earlier this year, we reported that Stewart Haas Racing was shutting down. This weekend at Phoenix is their last race.

“The charter agreements are a joke,” Stewart said in an interview with Cars & Culture with Jason Stein. “And if people aren’t smart enough to read between the lines of, when someone like Rick Hendricks says, I just got tired of arguing with him. Do you think Rick Hendricks runs his business and in negotiations just says, I’m just going to sign this agreement because I’m tired of arguing with you.

“Rick Hendricks never done that a day in his life. So if people aren’t smart enough to read between the lines and figure out what that means, then you’re, you’re all missing the whole big picture all by itself.”

23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports are suing NASCAR about their charter program. NASCAR reportedly gave the teams just hours to sign the more than 100-page charter agreement.

These two teams — owned by Denny Hamlin/Michael Jordan and Bob Jenkins — still intends to race next season despite the lawsuit.

Stewart is still an owner of a Motorsports team. His Motorsports portfolio also includes Eldora Speedway.

However, after this weekend, he’ll shift his focus to his NHRA team, where he races in the Top Fuel Dragster class. This is his first season in the 330-mph Top Fuel Dragster class.

Plus, any day now, he’s going to be a father. Leah Stewart is expecting and her due date is in early November.

“So it’s just an area that I don’t want to be a part of anymore,” Stewart added. “I’m a purist. I’m an old school guy when it comes to racing.”
