RevZilla & Motul sponsored Pro Stock Motorcycle driver Gaige Herrera won the Ford Performance NHRA Nationals on Monday. Herrera defeated Denso and Outlaw Beer-sponsored driver Angie Smith in the final round at the dragstrip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Herrera went 6.789 at 197.16 mph to get the win. Smith, on the other hand, went 6.925 at 193.65 mph in the losing effort.
“To run that 6.79 in the final, the bike’s just been on rails. It has been all season, and as long as I do my job, Andrew [Hines, crew chief]and the guys always do their job to a T,” Herrera said. “They’re always about being (as) perfect as possible, which pushes me to do the same.
“If I’m able to win the second championship — and anything can still happen — this one would mean a lot more than the first. I had to earn it a lot more this season. We kind of ran away with it last year, but this year it was definitely a lot tighter racing, and there wasn’t much room for error. It’s going to mean a lot more for sure.”
Before this final round, Herrera had a 6-2 advantage over Smith. He also had a previous 3-0 advantage over Smith in their final-round appearances.
Herrera had the starting line advantage. He went straight down the track. His pass was the quickest run of the event.
Smith had the slowest pass of her weekend in the loss.
The Vance & Hines rider has 21 career Pro Stock Motorcycle wins. This is his 10th win on the season.
