The Nebraska Cornhuskers have brought in a former head coach to their football coaching staff. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that the Cornhuskers have hired Dana Holgorsen as an offensive analyst.
Holgorsen is a former head coach with the Houston Cougars and the West Virginia Mountaineers. He is 92-69 as a head coach from 2011 through 2023.
This includes a 4-6 Bowl record.
Holgorsen will work with head coach Matt Rhule and the offensive coaching staff.
He has not had a significant coaching role since being fired by the Cougars in November 2023. In July, he was hired as an analyst by the TCU Horned Frogs.
The team has a bye week this upcoming weekend. Their next game is on Saturday, November 16th against the woeful USC Trojans in Los Angeles, California. This is a nationally televised FOX game.
Holgorsen is known for his offensive play calling. He’s had high scoring offenses at West Virginia and Houston.
The offensive minded coach is being brought in to primarily working with freshman phenom Dylan Raiola. After a 5-1 start to the season, the offense has struggled.
Raiola has gone 176 of 272 for 1,921 yards. He has 10 touchdown passes and eight interceptions.
He has not thrown for 200 or more yards in their last two games. In fact, his best performance was 177 yards.
He had 177 passing yards in a 27-20 loss to the UCLA Bruins. He also had 152 passing yards in a 21-17 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
