Shell Pennzoil driver Joey Logano has won the 2024 Cup Series Championship. He won the race on Sunday afternoon at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona.

The 34-year-old Logano has won his third NASCAR Cup Series Championship. It is his second Cup Series Championship in the past three years.

He also won the 2018 Cup Series Championship. Logano also won in 2022.

Team Penske has won the Cup Series for the third straight year. The team also won in 2023 with Ryan Blaney.

The Connecticut native is being criticized for the win. Logano thought he had been eliminated following the Charlotte Roval road course race in October. However, it was later determined that Hendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman was disqualified.

Thus, it gave Logano a second chance to remain in the playoff.

“The only reason why they don’t say this about other sports is because they didn’t change the Playoff system,” Logano said. “But the Playoff system in other sports is not much different than what this is. You can have a great regular season, it seeds you better for the Playoffs. Now, that doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to go all the way to the Super Bowl, or the Stanley Cup Playoffs, or the NBA Finals.

“It doesn’t matter. It might help you, and it’s the same way in NASCAR, the way we have the rules now is that you set yourself up much better.”

Logano is now the 10th driver in NASCAR history, who has at least three Championships. He joins Kyle Busch, as the only other active driver, who has three or more championships.

“I love the playoffs, I love it man,” Logano said. “What a team, what a Penske battle there at the end. Three of them? That’s truly special.”

Penske driver Blaney, who was sponsored by Menards and Richmond Water Heaters, finished second. Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron, who Axalta sponsored, finished third.

“At least a Penske car won it,” Blaney said. “They put together a great playoffs, and we’re happy. If we’re going to race somebody, I’m happy it was him for the championship, and happy to be 1-2 for Roger, three in a row for Roger, super amazing, and Ford.”
