The Miami Marlins have hired Clayton McCullough as their new manager. He replaces Skip Schumacher, who departed the team at the end of the season.
McCullough comes to Miami, Florida after serving as the Los Angeles Dodgers’ first base coach since 2021. The 44-year-old is now the 17th manager in Marlins history.
“We are thrilled to introduce Clayton McCullough as manager of the Miami Marlins following an extensive search,” Marlins chairman and principal owner Bruce Sherman said in a statement. “Clayton joins our organization following a World Series championship season and brings a strong pedigree of winning. His love of the game, ability to build meaningful relationships, and new leadership will guide our organization into an exciting new era.
“With roots already in South Florida, we are excited to welcome Clayton along with his wife Jill and their children to the Marlins’ organization.”
While McCullough has no MLB managerial experience, he does have experience as a Minor League manager. He was a manager for the Toronto Blue Jays organization from 2007 through 2014.
He was a manager in the Blue Jays’ Rookie and Class-A teams, going 629-559. After working for the Blue Jays in their Minor League system, he was hired away by the Dodgers.
McCullough was part of the Dodgers organization that won the 2024 World Series. The Dodgers won 4-1 over the New York Yankees.

He has an impressive track record of success, building relationships and bringing positive energy every day.
“It’s clear that Clayton’s values and vision align perfectly with ours, and we are ready to begin working on the next exciting chapter for our club.”
The previous 16 Marlins managers have gone 2,241-2,608 for a .462 win percentage. When Schumacher led the team, he went 146-178.
Jack McKeon was the last Marlins manager with a win percentage over .500. From 2003 through 2005, McKeon went 241-207 for a .538 win percentage.
McKeon is one of two managers, who have won a World Series Championship with the Marlins. In 2003, McKeon guided the team to the World Series.
Jim Leyland was the other Marlins manager who guided his team to the World Series in 1997.
