49ers promote Tim Brewster as interim head coach

The Charlotte 49ers have promoted Tim Brewster as their interim head coach. He replaces head coach Biff Poggi, who was fired on Monday.

Brewster has previous head coaching experience. He is in his first season coaching with the 49ers.

The veteran coach will lead the team for the first time on Saturday against the Florida Atlantic University Owls. They also fired their head coach on Monday, as Tom Herman received the pink slip.

Chad Lunsford will lead the Owls for their final two games. Brewster will lead the 49ers into the game with the Owls.

His final game as interim head coach will be during Thanksgiving weekend against the UAB Blazers on November 30th.

This is Brewster’s first head coaching opportunity since the 2010 season when he was the Minnesota Golden Gophers head coach.

He was their head coach from 2007 through 2010. As the Golden Gophers head coach, he went 15-30.

Brewster went 1-11 during his first season at the University of Minnesota in 2007. He turned the program around to a 7-6 mark in 2008.

In 2009, Brewster’s team remained Bowl eligible, going 6-7. In 2008 and 2009, the team went to the Insight Bowl before losing both times.

In 2010, the Golden Gophers went 1-6 before his dismissal.
