The New York Giants have benched quarterback Daniel Jones Monday morning. He has been replaced by his backup Tommy DeVito.
The Giants are coming off of their bye week. They face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The team is 2-8 this season. And will likely target a new quarterback in free agency or next April’s draft.

Jones will likely be released when the new league year starts in March 2025. According to Spotrac, the team will be hit with a $22.2 million dead cap hit.
Yet, they will receive $19.3 million in savings.
He signed a four-year, $160 million deal before the 2023 season. He has gone 24-44-1 as an NFL starter after being the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Giants front office has a dilemma with Jones. If he were to get injured in the remaining games, then the team would be hit with a $23 million injury guarantee for the 2025 season.
The Washington Commanders previously faced a similar situation with their former quarterback Robert Griffin III years ago. As a result, the Commanders did the same thing and benched Griffin III to not play the injury guarantee.
His last game as a starter came against the woeful Carolina Panthers. He went 22 of 37 for 190 yards in their 20-17 overtime loss.
He also had two interceptions in the game.
On the season, Jones has gone 216 of 341 for 2,070 yards. He has thrown eight touchdown passes and seven interceptions.
DeVito has not played this season. He did make six starts for the Giants last season.
