Bulldogs stops Hurricanes, 80-69 in Charleston Classic

The Drake Bulldogs men’s basketball team defeated the Miami (Florida) Hurricanes on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs won 80-69 over the Hurricanes at the Shriner’s Children Charleston Classic at the TD Arena in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-0 on the season. The Hurricanes fell to 3-1.

This was the first game of the tournament. The Bulldogs moved onto the winner’s bracket. Their next game in the winner’s bracket will be against the winner of the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Florida Atlantic Owls game at 11:30 am EST on Friday.

The Hurricanes have moved to the loser’s bracket. They will face the loser of the Cowboys and Owls game on Friday at 2 pm EST.

This is the second straight year that these two teams have faced one another. The series is now tied at 1-1.

On March 17th, 2023, the team lost 63-56 to the Hurricanes in Albany, New York.

Bennett Stirtz led the Bulldogs with 21 points. He also had six rebounds, six assists, and one steal.

He was one of three Bulldogs, who scored in double digits. Daniel Abreu had 18. Mitch Mascari contributed 15.

Drake had 16 bench points. Tavion Banks led the bench with nine points.

Nijel Pack led the Hurricanes with 17 points. He also had two rebounds, five assists, and one steal.

Like Drake, the Hurricanes had three players in double figures. Matthew Cleveland and Jalen Blackmon had 12 points apiece.

The team had 19 bench points. A.J. Staton-McCray had seven bench points.
