Ohtani wins first NL MVP & third overall

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has won the National League MVP. It is the first time that he has won the National League MVP in his career.

Last off-season, Ohtani signed a massive contract with the Dodgers worth $700 million. He is the highest-paid MLB player ever in terms of the $700 million.

Later, it was revealed that Ohtani took the bulk of his salary in deferred money so that the Dodgers could contend for the Championship. He deferred $680 million.

In October, the Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in five games to win the World Series.

Ohtani came to the Dodgers from the Los Angeles Angels. While playing for the Angels, he won two American League MVPs.

Ohtani has three unanimous MVP awards in his career. All three have come within the last four seasons.

According to OptaStats, Ohtani is the only player in the top four major sports (MLB, NBA, NFL, & NHL) to do this. In fact, no one in those four major sports has done it in their careers.

The Japanese two-way superstar was just a hitter this season. He suffered an injury in 2023 that caused him not to pitch in 2024.

Ohtani received 420 points. He received 30 first-place votes.

New York Mets superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor was second in the voting. Lindor received 263 points.

He received 23 second-place votes. In addition, Lindor received seven third-place votes.

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte was third. He received 229 points.

Marte received five second-place votes. He also received 13 third-place votes.

The 31-year-old had nine fourth-place votes. Plus, he had two fifth-place votes..

Finally, Marte had one sixth-place vote.
