The UCONN Huskies men’s basketball team had a disastrous NovaVax Maui Invitational. The Huskies came into the Hawai’ian-based tournament with an undefeated record.

Then, the Huskies dropped three straight games in consecutive days. Now, according to ESPN, star forward Alex Karaban suffered a head injury after their 85-67 loss to the Dayton Flyers on Wednesday and was transported to the hospital.

This may have been cautionary. He hit his head on the floor after he had fouled out of the contest with approximately 2 ½ minutes left.

According to UCONN team doctor Robert Arciero, the team is “awaiting the test results.” Yet, ESPN is reporting that Karaban suffered a concussion when the doctor said they’re waiting on the results.

Yesterday, the Worldwide Leader in Sports jumped to report that Alabama A&M Bulldogs college football player Medrick Burnett Jr. died. Yet, TMZ later — a few hours later or sooner — reported that the player was still alive.

And ESPN had to run a new story saying that the player did not die like they initially reported.

Karaban led the Huskies with 21 points in the loss to the Flyers. He also had three rebounds and one assist.

He was the only player for UCONN, who had more than 12 points in the game.

Their next game is scheduled for Saturday at home. Their game has a 7 pm EST start time at the XL Center against the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks in Hartford, Connecticut.

A concussion — if that is indeed the case — typically is a week-long injury before being cleared to return. Depending on the severity of the concussion symptoms, it may take longer than that.

That means he’ll miss the clash with the Baylor Bears on Wednesday, December 4th at 6:30 pm on FS1. The game will be played at the Gampel Pavillion in Storrs, Connecticut.

He may also miss the Sunday, December 8th game against the Texas Longhorns at 8 pm EST. The game will take place at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas on ESPN.

If he cannot play in those games, the Huskies’ next game after that is Saturday, December 14th against the Gonzaga Bulldogs at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.
