Jennings throws 3 picks as Nittany Lions beat Mustangs in CFP Playoff

The No. 6 seed Penn State Nittany Lions defeated the No. 11 seed SMU Mustangs on Saturday. The Nittany Lions defeated the Mustangs 38-10 at Beaver Stadium at University Park, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Nittany Lions improved to 12-2. They also advanced to face the No. 3 Boise State Broncos in the next round of the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff.

The whiteout was too loud for Mustangs quarterback Kevin Jennings, who struggled with the crowd noise. On the three interceptions by Jennings, Penn State had 96 yards off the returns.

Plus, they also forced one Mustangs fumble. SMU also struggled on third down, as they went 3 of 14 and just 1 of 3 on fourth down.

Nittany Lions quarterback Drew Allar went 13 of 22 for 127 yards.

Nicholas Singleton had 14 carries for 90 yards and a touchdown. Harrison Wallace III had four receptions for 48 yards.

Jennings went 20 of 36 for 195 yards. He had one touchdown pass and three interceptions.

Brashard Smith had 18 carries for 62 yards. Roderick Daniels Jr. had four receptions for 64 yards and one touchdown.

Both teams scored 10 points in the second half. Nittany Lions’ Kaytron Allen scored on a four-yard rushing touchdown. Ryan Barker also made a 40-yard field goal.

SMU’s Jennings hit Daniels Jr. for a 28-yard touchdown reception. Collin Rogers also made a 28-yard field goal.

Penn State led 28-0 at halftime. Dominic DeLuca picked off Jennings and returned it for a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Tony Rojas picked off Jennings and then returned it for a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown. Allen then scored on a 25-yard rushing touchdown.

Singleton scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.
