Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has won the 2024 Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year. This is the third time that he has received this honor.

He has won it in back-to-back years, as he also won it in 2023. Ohtani also won the award in 2021.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was the last non-MLB player to win the award in 2020.

Ohtani is now tied with NBA legend Michael Jordan with three awards apiece. Jordan won his awards in 1991, 1992, and 1993.

Only 3 people have won more Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year awards. Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, and James have won four apiece.

Armstrong— the tainted cyclist — won his awards in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. Woods — the legendary golfer — won his awards in 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2006.

James — the legendary basketball player — won the award in 2013, 2016, 2018, and 2020.

The 30-year-old Japanese sensation — who signed a massive contract with the Dodgers last December — had a .310 batting average in his first season in the National League. He also had 54 home runs and 130 RBIs in 159 games.

For his efforts, Ohtani took home the National League MVP.
