The Indiana Hoosiers have found their next quarterback. Instead of recruiting one, the team did like many others have done in college football and found one via the college football transfer portal.

Fernando Mendoza has announced that he will attend Indiana University. NIL ramifications are not known at this time.

Quarterbacks in the transfer portal are generating at least a million dollars per move. Some are generating several million.

Former Penn State Nittany Lions backup quarterback Beau Pribula signed a $1.5 million NIL package with the Missouri Tigers. Jackson Arnold, according to On3, also signed a similar deal with the Auburn Tigers after transferring from the Oklahoma Sooners.

Mendoza spent the last two seasons with the California Bears. Now, he will attempt to replace Kurtis Rourke.

Rourke was a transfer portal move by the Hoosiers after he played for the Ohio Bobcats. However, he has used up his college football eligibility now.

He guided the Hoosiers to their first appearance in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. Unfortunately for them, they were defeated by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the first round at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.

This past season as a sophomore, Mendoza had his best campaign. He went 265 of 386 for 3,004 yards.

Mendoza also had 16 touchdown passes and six interceptions.

In his final game with the Cal Bears, Mendoza went 25 of 36 for 299 yards in a 24-21 win over the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday, November 23rd. He also had three touchdown passes.

Indiana went 11-2 in Curt Cignetti’s first season at the school. Rourke had nearly identical passing yards to Mendoza.

He went 222 of 320 for 3,042 yards. Rourke had 29 touchdown passes and five interceptions.
