The Miami (Florida) Hurricanes men’s basketball coach Jim Larrañaga is expected to step down, according to reports. The school and Larrañaga are expected to reach an agreement on his departure soon.

An official announcement could come as soon as this afternoon, according to the Miami Herald.

Once Larrañaga leaves, the most logical choose would be to promote Bill Courtney to interim head coach. He is the team’s Associate Head Coach.

The Hurricanes are 4-8 this season. However, dating back to last season, the team has gone 5-19 in their last 24 games.

The team is 0-1 within the Atlantic Coast Conference this season.

The Hurricanes lost their last game on Saturday, December 21st. They lost 78-74 in overtime to Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers in Coral Gables, Florida.

The team will not play again until Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, with a new coach. That’s when they play the Boston College Eagles at noon EST in a conference game in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

The longtime coach — who turned 75 in October — has been the Hurricanes head coach since 2011. And most likely the end of his coaching career.

As the Hurricanes head coach, he guided the team to a 274-174 record overall. Larrañaga also guided his Hurricanes teams to a 126-116 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference play.

This move comes two years after he guided the Hurricanes to the Final Four. This was his lone Final Four appearance during his tenure at the school.

He also led the American International Yellow Jackets, Bowling Green Falcons, and the George Mason Patriots before coming to Miami.
