The No. 6 seed Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the No. 4 seed Texas Longhorns on Friday night. The Buckeyes won 28-14 over the Longhorns in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
With the win, the Buckeyes improved to 13-2 on the season. They also advanced to the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff National Championship game.
On January 20th, the Buckeyes will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the winner-take-all National Championship game. The Fighting Irish defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions to receive a berth into the big game.

Ironically, Marcus Freeman, the Fighting Irish head coach, went to college at Ohio State.
The Longhorns — who were playing 3 hours away from their Austin, Texas campus — fell to 13-3 with the loss.
This was Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard’s first win over the Longhorns. He was previously 0-3 from his time with the Kansas State Wildcats.
Last off-season, the Buckeyes paid $20 million in NIL deals to get a number of transfers. Head coach Ryan Day and his staff had envisions of being in this position with the salary that they constructed. One of those key transfers was Howard.
Howard went 24 of 33 for 289 yards. He had one touchdown pass and one interception.
TreVeyon Henderson had six carries for 42 yards. Carnell Tate had seven receptions for 87 yards.
Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers went 23 of 39 for 283 yards. He had two touchdown passes and one interception.
Quintrevion Wisner had 17 carries for 46 yards. Jaydon Blue had five receptions for 59 yards and two touchdowns.
This may have been Ewers’s final game with the Longhorns, as before the game, there was a report that he was entering the NFL Draft. Arch Manning is waiting in the wings to take over the quarterback position in 2015.
The Buckeyes outscored the Longhorns 14-7 in the second half. Ewers was sacked by Jack Sawyer for a nine-yard loss. Ewers fumbled on the play.

Sawyer recovered the fumble and returned it for an 83-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Quinshon Judkins scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.
Longhorns’ Ewers hit Blue for a 26-yard touchdown reception.
Ohio State led 14-7 at halftime. Judkins scored on a nine-yard rushing touchdown. Howard hit Henderson for a 75-yard touchdown reception.
Longhorns’ Ewers hit Blue for an 18-yard touchdown reception.
