Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has won the 2024 NFL MVP. This is the first time in his career that he received the MVP Award.
He is also the first Bills quarterback to win the award. Previously, two Bills running backs won the award.

Thurman Thomas won the award in 1991. O.J. Simpson also won the award in 1973.

A quarterback has received the NFL MVP for the past 12 seasons. Adrian Peterson was the last non-quarterback to win the award when the running back won it in 2012.
Since 2000, only four non-quarterbacks won the award. Outside of Peterson, LaDainian Tomlinson won it in 2006, Shaun Alexander won it in 2005, and Marshall Faulk won the award in 2000.
Allen beat out Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson to win the award. Jackson is a two-time NFL MVP.
Jackson previously won the award in 2019 and 2024.
According to Associated Press reporter Josh Dubow, Allen won with 383 votes. He received 27 first-place votes. He also had 22 second-place votes and one third-place vote.
Jackson had 362 votes. Jackson received 23 first-place votes.
He also had 26 second-place votes. One media member gave Jackson a fourth-place vote.
Allen guided the Bills to the AFC Conference Championship game. They lost 32-29 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 28-year-old went 13-4 as a starter in the regular season. Allen went 307 of 483 yards for 3,731 yards.
He also has 28 touchdown passes and six interceptions.
The 3,731 passing yards were the fewest he had in a season since 2019 when he had 3,089 yards.
Jackson had the lone win between the two MVP candidates this season. He went 12-5 on the season.
He went 316 of 474 for 4,172 passing yards. Jackson also had 41 touchdown passes and four interceptions.
He had better passing yardage numbers this season than he did in 2023 when he won the NFL MVP with 3,678 yards. Jackson also had a career-high 41 touchdowns.
