Tennessee State Tigers head coach Eddie George has been hired by the Bowling Green Falcons. He has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract, according to ESPN.

This is his first head coaching opportunity at the FBS level. Tennessee State plays at the FCS level.

“Today, we add another transformative leader to this campus in Eddie George,” Derek van der Merwe, Bowling Green’s vice president for athletics strategy, said in a news release. “Our students are getting someone who has chased success in sports, art, business, and leadership. As our head football coach, he will pursue excellence in all aspects of competition in the arena. More importantly, beyond the arena, he will exemplify what excellence looks like in the classroom, in life, in business, and relationships with people.”

George was one of three finalists for the job. They interviewed for the job again on Friday, according to reports.

“I am truly excited to be the head coach at Bowling Green State University,” George said in the news release. “Bowling Green is a wonderful community that has embraced the school and the athletics department. We are eager to immerse ourselves in the community and help build this program to the greatness it deserves. I am overwhelmed with excitement and joy for the possibilities this opportunity holds.”

George replaces Scot Loeffler, who departed for the NFL. Loeffler was hired as the Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach.

Loeffler had been the Bowling Green Falcons head coach from 2019 through 2024. As their head coach, he guided the team to a 27-41 record.

However, in the past two seasons, Loeffler guided the team to back-to-back 7-6 records. The team went to a Bowl game in the past three seasons.

George — the former Ohio State Buckeye — returns to Ohio with this move. Bowling Green is located in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The former NFL running back spent four seasons leading the Tigers. He was 24-22 at the school.

This past season, the Tigers went 9-4 before losing in the first round of the FBS playoffs.

Right now, it is not clear if that coaching staff will come with him to Bowling Green. However, it is a logical choice, as this typically happens with coaching staff, as they usually follow their head coach to the next stop.
