Exclusive: IHRA releases statement to TCSR about track drama

The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) released a statement to The Capital Sports Report on Tuesday night. Maryland International Raceway in Mechanicsville, Maryland said their facility was not sold to the IHRA this morning.

Following their statement, Galot Motorsports Park in Dunn, North Carolina and Darlington Dragway in Hartsville, South Carolina said they have not been sold to the IHRA, according to Drag Illustrated. Two of the tracks in the official post confirmed that they were in transition to the IHRA.

“There were agreements reached with multiple tracks (before) the announcement,” IHRA Vice President of Strategic Partnerships Christian Byrd said in a statement to our publication. “As with any acquisition of property and assets, there is a period of discovery, due diligence, and navigation of existing events and partnerships. The IHRA is doing what should take two years to complete in basically two months.

On Friday, March 5th, the IHRA announced on social media and posted online that they purchased seven tracks. Three of the seven they claimed were purchased were Maryland International Raceway, Galot Motorsports Park, and Darlington Dragway.

The original statement said the IHRA purchased National Trail Raceway (OH), Maryland International Raceway (MD), Milan Dragway (MI), Dragway 42 (OH), Darlington Dragway (SC), Galot Motorsports Park (NC), and Kil-Kare Raceway (OH). Dragway 42 and Milan Dragway confirmed that they are in transition to be sold to the IHRA.

The IHRA is trying to be a force in the drag racing community once again. They have released a 2025 schedule with numerous nitro events. 

Rick Ware Racing Top Fuel Dragster driver Clay Millican is the winningest pro IHRA driver. Millican had 52 wins before switching over to the NHRA.
