Golfer Rory McIlroy won The Players Championship on Sunday. He won the 51st edition of the tournament on Sunday at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
This is McIlroy’s second Players Championship win. He won in a three-hole playoff against J.J. Spaun following the duo being tied at 12-under-par 276.

“I’m just trying to get the ball in play anyway I can, but then also I feel like this week because there’s so much trouble, just picking really conservative targets, especially with iron shots,” he said. Even on the first hole of the playoff, despite having a wedge in his hand, McIlroy said he aimed 30 feet left of the flag.”

He now has two wins on the season. McIlroy also won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on February 2nd.
McIlroy picked up $4.5 million with the win.

Akshay Bhatia, Lucas Glover, and Tom Hoge tied for 3rd with a -10. Bud Cauley, Corey Connors, and Danny Walker had a -9 and tied for sixth.
“By no means did I have my best stuff this week,” he said, “but I was still able to win one of the biggest tournaments in the world. That’s a huge thing.”
