The Phoenix Suns have hired former Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Jordan Ott as their new head coach. This will be Ott’s first head coaching opportunity.
He replaces Mike Budenholzer. The former NBA champion head coach lasted just one season with the Suns before he was dismissed after the season.

The Suns brass picked Ott over fellow Cavaliers associate coach Johnnie Bryant. Suns star Devin Booker was also reportedly involved in the process to pick Ott.
The rookie head coach is taking over a team that had a Big 3 that struggled. The Suns are reportedly aggressively trying to move Kevin Durant before the NBA Draft.
The team also may decide to move Bradley Beal, whose tenure has not worked in the desert. He was acquired in a blockbuster deal from the Washington Wizards.
The Suns went 36-46 under Budenholzer last season. The team also had one of the most expensive teams in the league with Booker, Durant, and Beal consuming much of that salary.
With the 36-46 record, the Suns missed out on the playoffs.
The team interviewed over 15 candidates before settling on Ott. He will work with new GM Brian Gregory.
