“This evening we are saddened by the news of the passing of Jackson Croft,” Sugar Creek Raceway said in a Facebook post. “A young life taken way too early in a tragic boating accident. Jackson was sure to be a a known figure on the race track. Please keep the Croft family in your prayers.”

According to 11Alive, his body was found 24 hours after the authorities began to investigate at Allatoona Lake in Georgia. The police were initially called on Thursday after receiving a report of a circling boat with no occupant.

His body was discovered at 3:38 pm with the assistance of sonar. His body was reportedly found 22 feet under water.

The report said his body was found “several hundred feet away” away from the boat.

“Mr. Croft was found in 22 feet of water,” Georgia DNR Law Enforcement Division’s Mark McKinnon said. “He was found within a few hundred feet of where the boat was found circling, and like I said, he was found with side scan sonar and recovered very quickly.”

Croft had followed in his father’s footsteps as a race car driver. He was the driver of the No. 9 Late Model race car.

“Heartfelt prayers for Jason Croft and his family as they have lost their son, Jackson, to a boating accident on Altoona Lake,” Denise Carter said in a Facebook post. “Jackson, age 17, just debuted his racing skills last Saturday night at Dixie Speedway.

“Our racing family is tight. When one of us hurt, we all hurt!! 💔”
